Petrol

(2015-2016)
This is the older Ford/PSA-derived diesel engine, used before the switch to Ingenium.
Pros
- Proven reliability
- Timing belt instead of a problematic timing chain
- Good torque for towing
- Can exceed 200,000 miles with proper maintenance

- EGR valve
- DPF blockage (if used only for short trips)
- Turbo wear on very high-mileage examples
Verdict
Best diesel choice if buying an early Discovery Sport.

This replaced the 2.2 and is the most controversial engine.

Gearbox
Although Land Rover often describes the transmission as “sealed for life,” many transmission specialists recommend more frequent servicing.

- Replace transmission filter if applicable
- Reset gearbox adaptations if required after servicing
This can improve shift quality and reduce wear.
Haldex
Many owners overlook this.
Every 30,000–40,000 miles
- Replace Haldex oil
